Modern History gives us a new perspective on the Vikings. It was not just barbarians, conquerors, sailors, and drunken soldiers. They were also skilled politicians, artists or priests. They invented some remarkable technologies and also their own form of democracy.
Researchers and supporters of the related history of America and Europe established international seminar about the discovery of Vinland, the Vinland sagas and the ancient Norse culture. Their goal si to learn more about our ancestors and cultural heritage world nations.
Some school newspaper reported on a three-day seminar in Chicago. The Vikings are no longer only bloodthirsty raiders and plunderers. The evolving political culture in the North culminated in the development of the assembly known as the Þing, the world’s first democratic system (artificially reinvented in Scandinavian society during the 18th century).
